Start your new year off right by planning ahead for late winter/early spring marketing! As the seasons change from winter to spring, there are plenty of opportunities for fresh marketing campaigns. Obvious themes for this month include St. Patrick’s Day, spring break and Easter (it falls on the first day of April this year so any marketing should be done mid to late March). Other ideas include the start of Daylight Savings Time, Pi Day, Red Cross Month, and Procrastination Week.
Hot Topics for March
March is all about moving away from winter and moving on to spring. Here are four topics that are high on consumers mind in March:
- Spring Break
- March Madness
- Patrick’s Day
What Can You Do?
Give It Away
Invite people to your store with an offer of a free gift just for stopping by. It could be a promotional pen, a bookmark, or even a small gift certificate for a future purchase. Anything to get them into your store could result in extra sales from early spring buyers. Consider an “enter-to-win” promotion. You could even bundle your own products as a prize or form a joint venture with another business to come up with a desirable jackpot. The bigger, the prize the better. Promote your contest via your website, social media, newsletters, and even paid advertising so customers will come to your store and enter in person.
Join the Madness
The NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament tips off in March. Get into the spirit by creating a March Madness bracket that relates to your business. Decorate your shop and take pictures of your employees who are getting in the spirit and post them on social media with the hashtag for the team you support! Hint: Tag your employees or customers dressed for the occasion and your posts will reach more people!
Share the Luck of the Irish
The St. Patrick’s Day can be a fun celebration for everyone. Get involved in your community by participating in any parades or fun runs that are going on. Dress in green and post pictures on social media. Give customers wearing green a special discount or prize and encourage them to share it on social media. If you are participating in local events, make sure to use the appropriate hashtag to help promote your business.
Hop into Spring & Easter
March in Maine may not always feel like Spring, but thankfully it comes to us anyway! March 20th is officially the first day of spring. Think warm colorful thoughts and decorate appropriately. Easter Sunday falls on April 1st this year. That means that you must finalize your marketing and other plans in March.
A little planning and marketing savvy now can bring big rewards in March. Spend time thinking about innovative ways to market your business as we move away from winter and celebrate spring to ensure a successful 2018.
