FAQ: What is the typical turnaround time for a mailing?

The total turnaround time of your direct mail project will vary based on the product and mail program you select.  For our purposes, the clock begins when you provide us with your order and art notes/images.  Please allow yourself time in advance to discuss your needs, product/program options, pricing, payment terms and deadlines with one of our knowledgeable sales representatives.

Shared Mail Program

For our Shared Mail Program, total turnaround – from the time you place your order and provide us with necessary art notes/images, to the time the mail packages are in-homes – ranges from 10 to 15 business days, depending on if we are designing and printing your mail piece or if you are providing us with a piece that has already been printed.

As part of our Shared Mail Program your mail piece is being designed, printed, processed, and mailed as part of one mail package with several other customers.  Because of this there is very little flexibility within the set deadlines.  The expected in-home date is set in advance and all participants must meet stated deadlines in order for us to provide you (and the rest of our customers) with the best possible pricing and mailing experience.

A typical Shared Mail timeline looks like this:

Order / Art Design – 5 days

Once you have discussed and selected a mailing product, a mailing profile, and in-home date it is time for us to create your sales agreement and start designing your mail piece.  Included in this step are:

  • Sales Agreement – Your sales representative will create and share with you an agreement that outlines the product, pricing, and zip codes selected for this mailing.  Your sales representative will also remind you of all deadlines necessary to ensure your piece is delivered on the desired in-home date.
  • Art Design / Approval  – If you have selected one of our we-print products, you must provide us with the notes and images necessary for our creative team to develop your mail piece.  Proofs for your review and approval will be sent throughout the process.  Final approval is typically due within 4-5 days of the start of artwork.

Printing – 5 days

We typically print all clients for a selected in-home date at the same time.  This saves everyone time and money due to the higher overall print volumes and pre-determined press time.

  • Printing – Product is typically printed and arrives at our facility 4-5 business days after we send files to the printer.
  • Pre-Printed Product – If you have elected to have your pieces printed elsewhere, the finished product must be delivered to our facility. Please see your sales representative for delivery addresses and other helpful information.

Processing / Delivery – 5-6 Days

Once all product has arrived at our facility it is time to assemble and deliver the mail packages to the USPS and then to all Maine households.

  • Processing – our facility handles approximately 3-4 million pieces of mail each week.  All individual products are entered into inventory and then processed by our experienced production staff to create unique mail packages for over 500 post offices every week.
  • Delivery – as the mail packages are complete, they are delivered to various post offices and mailing facilities for weekly delivery to Maine households.   Postal standards allow for the packages to be delivered within a 3-4 day window.  While we typically see Friday delivery, it may be possible that packages will be delivered on Thursday or Saturday in some areas.

Solo & List Mail Programs

For our Solo and List Mail Programs, total turnaround – from the time you place your order and provide us with necessary art notes/images, to the time the mail pieces are in-homes – ranges from 16 to 22 business days.

A typical Solo or List Mail timeline looks like this:

Order / Art Design 5 days

Once you have discussed and selected a mailing product, mailing profile or list, and in-home date it is time for us to create your sales agreement and start designing your mail piece.  Included in this step are:

  • Sales Agreement – Your sales representative will create and share with you an agreement that outlines the product, pricing, and list requirements selected for this mailing.  Your sales representative will also remind you of all deadlines necessary to ensure your piece is delivered on the desired in-home date.
  • Art Design / Approval  – At this time you must provide us with the notes and images necessary for our creative team to develop your mail piece.  Proofs for your review and approval will be sent throughout the process.  Final approval is typically due within 4-5 days of the start of artwork.

Printing / Processing – 5-6 days

Solo and List products are printed and processed individually and require up to 5 days for printing, labeling, mailing preparation and delivery to the USPS.

Delivery – 6-10 Days

The USPS processing and delivery varies depending on the type of mail.

As with anything in life, there will be factors (such as holidays and weather issues) that play a role in determining the total turnaround or deadlines schedules.  Please contact your sales representative to discuss your specific needs and mailing requirements to determine deadlines that apply to you.
